Worship is at the heart of our community at Locust Valley First Church of God. Whether you are seeking a church home or just curious about our congregation, we invite you to visit us for a service. Our weekly worship service is held at 9:00 am and we offer numerous special services and events throughout the year.
Visiting us for the first time? Here is what to expect:
Attending a church for the first time can be uncomfortable or confusing, so we want to provide an overview of what our typical worship service is like at Locust Valley to help introduce you to our congregation.
Where do I park? Our parking lot is located directly behind the church and can be entered from Mountain Church Road next to the church building. (Please proceed to the back of the church to park, do not block the driveway as we share it with our neighbors!)
What should I wear? Whatever makes you feel most comfortable. You will find that we have members who prefer to dress more casually and others who like to sport a more formal style. We do not care what you are wearing, but rather that you are with us to worship God!
Is the church handicap accessible? Our church building is more than a century old, but our congregation has worked to ensure that our facilities are as accessible as possible. A ramp can be used to access the sanctuary directly from the entrance to our parking lot. There is one step inside the vestibule that can be traversed using a portable ramp. Our restroom is fully ADA accessible.
Can I receive Holy Communion in your church? Absolutely! We observe an open communion in which all Christians are invited to partake of the Lord's Supper at our altar. We celebrate the ordinance of Holy Communion generally four times a year, on Epiphany Sunday (in early January), Easter Sunday, in the mid-summer, and on World Communion Sunday (first Sunday in October). When we celebrate Holy Communion, we either serve the elements to the congregation in their pews or by going to the altar and receiving the elements by intinction (dipping the bread in the cup). Whenever we observe this ordinance, special instructions are included in the bulletin and the pastor will guide the congregation through the service.
Does your church offer Baptism? We do offer Baptism to Christians who wish to make a public commitment to God and the church. The Church of God observes a "Believer's Baptism," meaning that we allow a candidate to make their own decision as to whether they are Baptized or not (instead of Baptizing infants or children). If you are interested in Baptism, please let our pastor know!
